FAQ

FAQ

What do you do, exactly?

I use digital sculpting and 3D modeling tools to create files for 3D printing. I can make a wide range of things, but my specialties are jewelry and character figures. I do not take on industrial design, complex product design, or engineering projects. I only provide printable files, not the prints themselves. Whether you have a fully fleshed out idea or just a vague one, I  will do my best to work with you to bring your ideas to life!

Where are you based?

I work out of Austin, Texas, but I have clients from all over the world.

How you do quote your services?

Once I have enough information from you, I will give you a quote in USD based on the complexity of the model and how long I think it will take me to complete. The initial quote is just an estimate and is not final. If there end up being a lot of design changes or hold ups in the process the final invoice will reflect the extra time spent on it. The quote is only for the design work and 3D modeling. It does not include printing costs.

If you have a lot of models to be created we can discuss an hourly rate instead of a per model rate.

What information do you need from me to get started?

I will need any sketches, reference images, and measurements of the object you want me to create. It is also helpful if you know what material you want to print it in, as well as what printer/printing service you will be using.

Can you help me with the initial design?

Yes, time spent on initial designs will be calculated into the initial quote.

When will I hear from you?

My office hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm CST. I only respond to emails and messages during those hours.

How you do deliver 3D model files?

I will send you renders of the model while I work to get your feedback. Once you are happy with the way it looks, I will send you an invoice. When the invoice is paid I will send you the printable files via email. (either .obj or .stl format, your choice).

How do you accept Payment?

For US customers I send invoices and accept payment via Intuit. For international customers I use Paypal.

Can you confirm that the models you create are print-able?

Generally, if I am familiar with the printer and material I can (Shapeways is a safe bet) but if you run into any issues after the model is delivered to you I will gladly try to help you solve them. 3D printing is still an imperfect process and we are learning more all the time.

Will you sign my legal documents?

I will gladly sign a nondisclosure agreement or contracting agreement.

Will you use my model in your portfolio?

I like to keep my portfolio of work up to date, so if you did not have me sign an NDA there is a possibility I will use the final model I created for you on my website (with credit to you, the original designer) as an example of successful client commissioned work. If you are not okay with that please let me know and I will respect your wishes. Either way, I love to see the final printed products so please send me pictures!

Are you available for long term contracts or full time work?

I'm open to it if the right opportunity presents itself!

If I like one of your existing ring designs can you modify it to fit my ring size?

Yes! Just let me know your size then I will upload the new version to Shapeways for you to order.
